Heroes actress Hayden Panettiere has spoken out in defense of Paris Hilton's air headed party girl image - insisting the heiress is actually a "genius".
Panettiere, 19, who has been a close friend of Hilton's for several years, says the 27-year-old socialite is actually more level-headed than the dumb "character" she projects to the media.
She explains, "She's a nice girl and a lot brighter than people give her credit (for) but no one sees her like that because she plays this character all the time. She's actually a marketing genius."

Lionsgate announced today that it will launch its multi-picture partnership with Crest Animation Productions with the CGI animated theatrical family film Alpha and Omega. Lionsgate and Crest are co-financing and co-producing Alpha and Omega, which is scheduled for theatrical release in 2010.
In the film, two bickering wolves -one a disciplined, Alpha-bred wolf (Hayden Panettiere) and the other a fun-loving, comical Omega wolf (Justin Long) -are captured and taken thousands of miles from their home. Determined to rejoin their pack, the two mismatched wolves begin a dangerous trek across unfamiliar terrain, battling the odds, the elements, the bears and one another and finding love along the way.

Fox Atomic can’t get enough of Hayden Panettiere. Shortly after casting the 18-year-old star in the upcoming I Love You, Beth Cooper, the studio signed her up for the lead role in Naomi and Ely’s No Kiss List.
The story, based on a novel recently purchased by Fox Atomic, is about the friendship between Naomi and a gay guy named Ely. To stay soulmates forever, they create a "no kiss list" – people they can't kiss under any circumstances. Ely breaks down and breaks the bond, by smooching Naomi's boyfriend, Bruce. When Bruce chooses Ely over Naomi, the former friendship becomes a complicated love triangle.
This will be a pleasant departure from Hayden Panettiere’s cheerleader roles. She played one in 2006’s Bring It On: All or Nothing, the third in the series first made popular by Kirsten Dunst and Eliza Dushku. Then Panettiere gained fame for her role as Claire Bennet, the cheerleader with self-healing powers on NBC’s “Heroes”. There she met her current boyfriend Milo Ventimiglia, who’s clearly not on her real-life no kiss list. Panetierre will once again shake her pom-poms in I Love You, Beth Cooper.

Hayden Panettiere says she can "rock her body". The 'Heroes' star accepts she will never be as thin as a model, but she has learned to embrace her curves. Hayden said: "I don't have a model's body. But I'm not one of those crazy girls who thinks that they're fat. I'm OK with what I have. I can rock this body, you know."
The 18-year-old actress, who is dating her 'Heroes' co-star Milo Ventimiglia, also revealed she only dates men who aren't "threatened" by her career. Hayden added to America's Cosmopolitan magazine: "I need somebody who is very secure. In this business, I'm constantly standing next to gorgeous people.
